Socks on The Loose

Socks can be lost since step 1 of doing laundry, putting it in the dirty pile, getting stuck between the tub and drum of a washing machine (metal and rubber part), in between other items of clothing, sucked into the drain pump, go in between washing and drying machine or be absorbed into the dryer filter.

I wanted to come up with a user-friendly design solution to this problem. For this, I made a detailed task analysis, along with a small-scale environmental scan, must/shoulds/coulds, extensive ideation, and prototyping.

The solution I came up with was a device that could be used for taking off the socks, and keeping them together throughout the washing process so they will not be lost due to size (the main reason they slip through the drain, in between machines etc.). It also lessens the strain of needing to sort socks, as they would already be paired.
